Commercial Law
Commercial law encompasses a wide range of both private and public legal matters relating to commercial dealings between individuals, companies, close corporations, partnerships, joint ventures and other businesses and/or Government entities. The branches of commercial law are important for amongst others, financing and financial markets, trade and industry. Private commercial law is contractual and/or delictual in nature and for example relates to financing, insurance and related matters between parties. Public commercial law is, for example, dealings of a commerce between businesses and the public/consumer and extends to legal matters between the state and businesses/Individuals. Other examples of commercial law include, company law, the law of insolvency, labour law and consumer protection

Administrative law 
Administrative law governs the administration of the state and the manner in which the state exercises, through its different regulatory bodies, its executive powers. The Promotion of Administrative Justice Act (Act 3 of 2000) amongst others, regulates the decision making of the state to ensure that it conducts itself in a procedurally fair and not prejudicial manner to individuals when it deals with the private sector. The governing legislation also provides for the recourse available to individuals who feel disgruntled with an outcome of any administration decision or the lack thereof by a public body. 
 
Compliance 
Legal Compliance comprises of the compliance with various acts, rules, regulations, policies and procedures governing our daily lives in the business sector. In order to comply with the rules, policies and/or procedures one needs to understand, plan and implement certain structures and policies in our daily business lives. Compliance is applicable to various spheres, including personal lives, businesses, commerce and/or financial aspects thereof. Good and sound compliance adherence can prevent any unwanted non-compliance outcomes and losses, possibly even in the form of administrative penalties. Examples of compliance law include labour laws, financial sector laws, company laws and/or government laws.

Litigation
Litigation comprises of civil procedure and criminal procedure. Civil procedure governs the legal proceedings between individuals or juristic persons who wish to enforce their rights against each other. These types of matters are known as civil cases. Civil procedure is applied in all litigation matters, irrespective of which part of the law one intends to litigate in. For example, civil procedure will be used if a dispute relating to family law, contracts, insurance claims, leases, delicts (a claim for damages) etc. is litigated.
Criminal procedure governs the procure applied when the state prosecutes an individual who allegedly committed a criminal offence.
Commercial litigation has become so prominent that some courts now even deal with litigation regarding commercial disputes separate from the normal civil litigation.

Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR)
Alternative Dispute Resolution is an alternative to general litigation whereby parties attempt to resolve any dispute amicably so as to prevent lengthy court and/or other litigation proceedings. There are different forms of Alternative Dispute Resolution mechanisms which include negotiation, mediation, arbitration, and conciliation. Some advantages of ADR mechanisms are cost-effectiveness, time efficiency, confidentiality, flexibility and preservation of relationships. The South African legal field has recognized the importance of ADR as it lessens the burdens on courts and promotes access to justice.

Family Law
Family law is a division of the legal field which regulates the legal issues that arise within family and/or other non-business types of relationships, and personal matters involving individuals. Examples of family law legal issues include divorce, separation, child rights, spousal maintenance, appointment of curators, domestic violence and protections orders etc. Matters involving children (primary residence (custody), contact rights (visitations), maintenance, adoption, guardianship and paternity also fall under this branch of the law.

Estates and Fiduciary Law 
Fiduciary law comprises of financial and estate planning throughout one’s various stages of life and includes the drafting of wills and testaments, the structing of estates (financially and importantly practically and effectively), and the administration of trusts, beneficiary funds and deceased estates. Fiduciary law usually involves the Master of the High Court. The Master of the High Court has offices all over South Africa and deals with the matters within their jurisdiction. Often times the different fields of the law ty together. In this instance compliance law further promotes the efficient administration of Estates and Fiduciary law. Criminal procedure governs the prosecution by the state of individuals who have allegedly committed criminal offences. Criminal law involves the litigation by individuals and/or companies against the state. Criminal law often overlaps with various other branches of law including but not limited to civil litigation, compliance law, alternative dispute resolution and/or family law. Some examples of criminal law include, being charged for driving under the influence, breach of tax laws, fraud, theft, assault etc. 
Criminal law often involves bail applications pending the outcome of a matter finalized in court.
